Longhouse Completed Overlooking a Lochan

Longhouse Completed Overlooking a Lochan

A new HebHomes project is taking shape, designed to sit quietly within its rural setting while delivering a contemporary home tailored to modern living.

Set within the grounds of an existing family home, this longhouse supports a client’s move to downsize without compromise. Based on an amended LH202P.3 housetype, the design draws on the proportions of a traditional Scottish longhouse, expressed through two simple gable forms.

Positioned among mature trees, the home has been carefully sited to minimise visual impact while strengthening its connection to the landscape. Existing trees have been retained and worked around, with an existing stables building helping to form a sheltered courtyard garden for the client.

The main elevation overlooks a small lochan, with large areas of glazing bringing in natural light and framing views across the water and surrounding countryside. Natural materials and clean detailing ensure the house sits comfortably within its rural village context while maintaining a modern identity.

As the build progresses, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design can create a home that feels both contemporary and deeply connected to its setting.
